The only thing Emberlift sends anywhere is a check for updates.
Last updated: 2 September 2026
The short version
Emberlift keeps your training on your phone. There is no account, no sign-up, and no server of ours that your workouts, body weight or food diary are sent to. We cannot see your data, because it never reaches us.
The only thing the app sends anywhere is a check for software updates, and that check contains no information about you or your training.
Who is responsible
Emberlift ("we", "us") is the data controller for the limited processing described below.
- Email: [email protected]
- Postal address: available on request
We are based in the United Kingdom. This policy is written to the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
What stays on your device
All of the following is stored in a database on your phone and nowhere else. We have no copy and no means of obtaining one.
| What | Examples |
|---|---|
| Training records | Workouts, exercises, sets, weights, reps, rest, personal records |
| Routines | Your programme, its days, and the exercises in them |
| Body measurements | Body weight entries and weight trend |
| Food and nutrition | Food items, recipes, meals, diary entries, daily totals |
| App settings | Your display name and preferences |
Some of this is health data, which UK law treats as a special category requiring extra protection. Keeping it solely on your device is how we protect it: we hold no health data about you, so there is none for us to lose, disclose or misuse.
If you delete the app, this data is deleted with it. There is no backup on our side to restore from, and no way for us to recover it for you.
Apple Health
On iPhone, if you grant permission, Emberlift exchanges a small amount of data with Apple Health on your device:
- Reads your body weight — so your weight trend stays current without
- Reads active energy burned — so calorie figures reflect what your watch
- Writes finished workouts — so your lifting appears in the Fitness app and
entering it twice.
measured rather than an estimate.
contributes to your activity rings.
You can refuse any of these, or withdraw them later in Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → Emberlift. The app works without them.
This exchange happens entirely on your device, between two apps. Health data is not transmitted to us. The Android version does not read or write any health platform.
We confirm, as Apple requires of every app using HealthKit, that we do not use Apple Health data for advertising, marketing or any use-based data mining, and that we do not disclose or sell it to any third party.
What leaves your device
One thing, and only one.
Software updates
The app periodically asks our update service whether newer app code is available. That service is Expo Application Services (EAS Update), operated by 650 Industries, Inc., which acts as our data processor.
The request contains:
- the platform (iOS or Android) and the app's runtime version
- the release channel and the identifier of the app version currently installed
- protocol version information
- your IP address, which is inherent in making any internet request
It contains no account, no device identifier, no advertising identifier, and nothing whatsoever about your workouts, body, or food.
An IP address is personal data under UK law, which is why it is disclosed here. Our lawful basis is legitimate interests (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(f)) — keeping the app working, correct and secure. There is no realistic way to deliver software fixes without it.
Expo processes this on our behalf and may store request logs for a limited period. Their processing may involve transfers outside the UK, made under the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or equivalent safeguards.
What we do not do
The app does not use analytics. We do not use crash reporting. We do not use advertising or advertising identifiers. We do not track you across apps or websites. We do not sell or share personal data. We do not profile you, and no decision about you is made by automated means.
Messages you send us
If you use Send us a message in the app, what you typed is sent to us — that is the point of the button, and nothing is sent unless you press it.
The message goes to our endpoint at emberlift.app, which is run by Cloudflare (Workers and their D1 database), and a copy is delivered to our inbox by Resend, an email delivery service. Both act as our processors.
What is sent: your message, the name you chose to type (optional — leave it blank and we never learn it), and the app version and iOS version, which are shown to you on that screen before you send. Our server also sees your IP address, as any server does; it is used only to stop one source flooding the form, is stored apart from your message, and is not linked to it.
What is not sent: nothing from your training, food diary, body weight or Apple Health. No account, no device identifier — there are none to send.
Our lawful basis is legitimate interests (answering people who write to us and fixing what they report). We keep messages while they are useful and delete them when they are not. If you would like yours deleted, tell us — though if you sent it anonymously we may need you to quote it so we can find it.
The website (emberlift.app)
This policy also covers our website. The site is hosted by Cloudflare, Inc. (Cloudflare Pages), which, like any host, handles your IP address in order to serve the pages to you and keeps short-lived request logs for security and reliability.
To see how many people visit and which pages they read, the site uses Cloudflare Web Analytics. It is cookieless: it sets no cookies, does not fingerprint your device, does not build a profile of you, and does not share data with advertisers. It records the page viewed, the referring site, the country and the browser and device type, in aggregate. Our lawful basis is legitimate interests (understanding whether the site works and what people read). There is nothing to opt out of because nothing identifies you, but blocking scripts in your browser will stop it and the site works the same.
The website has no account, no forms, and no cookies of its own. Emailing us from it is an ordinary email from you to us.
Notifications
Emberlift can notify you when a rest period ends. These are local notifications, created and delivered by your own phone. Nothing is sent through Apple's push servers or ours, and no push token is registered.
How long we keep things
Data on your device stays until you delete it or remove the app — you are in control of it, not us.
Update-check logs held by our processor are retained only as long as needed for operating and securing the service.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have rights to access, rectify, erase, restrict and object to processing of your personal data, and to data portability.
We have to be straightforward about how these apply here: for your training, body and nutrition data, we hold nothing, so there is nothing for us to give you, correct or delete. That data is already entirely in your hands. Deleting the app erases it.
For the update-check data, contact us at [email protected] and we will do what we can — noting that these records are not linked to your identity, so we may be unable to isolate yours without additional information from you.
If you are unhappy with how we handle your data you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk, or call 0303 123 1113.
Children
Emberlift is a training log intended for adults. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone — of any age — beyond the update check described above.
Resistance training and nutrition tracking are not appropriate for every age. If a young person uses this app, that should be a decision made by a parent or guardian with appropriate coaching supervision.
Health disclaimer
Emberlift records what you did and does arithmetic on it. It is not a medical device and does not provide medical advice. Nothing in the app is a diagnosis, a treatment recommendation, or a substitute for a qualified professional. If you have a medical condition, are pregnant, or are unsure whether exercise is safe for you, speak to a doctor before starting or changing a programme.
Changes to this policy
If this changes materially — in particular if any data ever begins leaving your device to a server we control — we will update this page and the date at the top, and surface the change in the app before the new behaviour takes effect.
